Sony Xperia Z6 – Release Date and its Rumoured Features

The annual GSMA Mobile World Congress is one of the world’s largest events within the mobile telecommunications industry. It is where global leaders come together to unveil cutting edge technology, with over 2 000 companies converging so as to define the future of cell-phones. It is where some of the greatest phones ever have made their spectacular debut.

Sony Xperia Z6 Preview - Rumors, Specs, Features, Concept, Price, Preorder, and Release Date Info

Yet February 2016 has come and gone. Excited consumers hoping for their first glimpse of the upcoming flagship, the Sony Xperia Z6, were bitterly disappointed. The Japanese giant threw a curve-ball and released a completely new range of phones, the X-series.

As if to make matters worse, Sony declared that they would not be releasing the Xperia Z6 at the IFA consumer electronics trade show in Berlin either. Does this mean the death of a legendary phone? Will die-hard fans never get to see the Sony Xperia Z6? Never say never, says Sony.

Best Smartphone of 2016 – Fierce Competition

In a fiercely contested arena, where market share means everything, the Sony Xperia Z6 is expected to go head to head with both the Samsung Galaxy S7 as well as the iPhone 7. These three handsets will compete for the prestigious title of Best Smartphone of 2016.

Although Samsung has released the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge, they have kept quiet as to the release date of the S7 Active. Similarly, the launch of the iPhone 7, originally scheduled for March, has been postponed to September. What is going on and why these delays?

It’s all about the operating system!

We strongly suspect that the reasoning behind the delays has to do with the launch of Android 6.1 Marshmallow. Both the Sony Xperia Z5 as well as the Samsung Galaxy S7 are running Android 6.0. The launch of 6.1 Marshmallow is only scheduled for June 2016.

Sony Xperia Z6 Operating System Rumors

The Android upgrade to 6.1 is expected to bring with it split screen functionality and improved app permissions. By postponing their respective launches, Samsung and Sony will be able to capitalize on the new operating system. It will allow for Apple to make the necessary changes to the iPhone IOS operating system so as to compete effectively with the Sony Xperia Z6 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active.

Another suspicion of ours deals with the late unveiling of the Xperia Z5. The Z5 was only released late in the last quarter of 2015. It would not make sense for Sony to release a second flagship so hot on its heels. If our theories prove to be correct, then there is hope for the Sony Xperia Z6 after all!

Sony Xperia Z6 Design Rumors

Sony Xperia Z6 Rumors

It is doubtful that there will be any major changes in the overall design of the Z6. Sony may be able to shave it down to a slightly thinner version of the Z5. How much thinner is purely conjecture but, given that the Z5 is already a super-slim handset, anything more svelte could compromise durability.

Sony Xperia Z6 Ram Memory Rumors

We expect any real changes from the Z5 to the Xperia Z6 will come from within. The Z5 runs on 3GB RAM. This could be upgraded to 4GB though it is probable internal memory will remain at 32GB.

Sony Xperia Z6 Resolution Rumors

[AdSense-A]When it comes to resolution, for Sony to improve on the Z5’s 4K screen would mean they really are pushing the envelope. The same could be said for their 23 MP rear facing camera. If changes are going to be under the hood, advances to the camera would come in the form of three-way electronic image stabilization and high-speed hybrid auto-focus.

Sony Xperia Z6 Processor Rumors

We are reluctant to speculate as to what processor the Xperia Z6 will be equipped with. The Z6 mini may be powered by a Snapdragon 620 chip while the more powerful Snapdragon 820 could be used in the Xperia Z6 Plus and Z6 Ultra versions. Then again, with the rapid improvements made in electronic chip technology, our assumptions may be completely wrong.

Conclusion

In order to retain good standing among discerning consumers, Sony will have to release a handset to satisfy demand sooner rather than later. Their X-series may be excellent phones, but they don’t quite live up to expectations. When the new phone will be unveiled, only time will tell. Whenever that may be, be sure to follow us for sneak previews and hot off the press information.

Sony Xperia Z6 Preview – Rumors, Specs, Features, Concept, Price, Preorder, and Release Date Info

The Sony Xperia Z6 is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated smartphone launches in 2016, and from what we’re hearing there’s plenty of reasons why. Sony Inc surprised many with the launch of the Z5 and all that was packed into three variants, and the same is expected with the coming launch. Proving once again they deserve to be considered one of the best, and even changing the idea that Sony’s looking to slowly descend from the smartphone industry all-together.

The Z5 brought out many innovations and gave consumers three amazing concepts to choose from. Maintaining their worldwide presence and looking to increase their market share with the upcoming launch of Z6, it’s looking like their well on the way of introducing something truly unique.

Z6 Rumors

Some of the biggest Z6 rumors concerns the launch which is almost certain to be made official during the 2nd quarter of 2016. Sony gave us something to look forward to with the surprise launch of the Xperia Z5, and the next installment looks to be even more impressive. Once thought to be thought of moving to a more conventional launch pattern, it’s now looking like Sony Mobile will be sticking to its bi-annual launches of new smartphones.

[AdSense-A]We’re already hearing we’ll see some significant improvements with security as eye sensing technology looks to be the upcoming trend. The 4K screen of the Z5 will be hard to top, but expect some brighter color features and quite possibly a 3D rendered display. All this will be powered by Sony’s biggest battery yet, but it’ll be interesting to see if Sony can maintain the ultra-thin design we’ve come to expect with Xperia Z smartphones.

Other Z6 rumors suggest Sony will be looking to remain competitive as far as pricing. With start-ups out of Asia making a huge presence in recent years, we’re hearing the launch price won’t go up as what’s being speculated. This is great news for loyal Xperia Z and new consumers as the launch price is believed to come in lower than flagships debuting in 2016 including the iPhone 7, Galaxy S7, and Galaxy Note 6.

Sony Xperia Z6 Specs and Features

Sony Xperia Z6 Specs

We wouldn’t expect anything but the best in the upcoming Sony Xperia Z6 specs and features which is what is believed we’ll see. There will be many similarities between the Compact, standard, and Premium with the biggest difference being the size of the phone. The Z6 Compact is expected to stay the same at 4.6 inches, Z6 at 5.2 inches, and the Z6 Premium is rumored to be bigger than the Z5 Premium at 5.6 inches.

One of the biggest surprises of the Z5 was it featured the controversial Qualcomm 810 SoC. With the Z6 we’re hearing it will feature the new Snapdragon Qualcomm 820 processor that will soon become the gold-standard of smartphone processors. This will also give consumers the peace of mind with no overheating issues that we’ve seen in both the Xperia Z4 and Z5.

Expect a wide array of colors to choose from including yellow, gold, black, chrome, blue, and more. Memory won’t be a problem either with dual Micro SD card slots and we should be seeing more RAM, wireless charging, and a bigger battery giving consumers high end features in the Z6.

Z6 Concept

We’re not expecting to see any significant changes in the  Xperia Z6 concept when comparing it to the Z5. The 4K display that the current model introduced us to have proven that 4K screens isn’t too much like some analysts were suggesting. The new concept looks to build on the success of all three of the current Z5 models while once again bringing back all three in the Z6.

The Z6 Compact will once again be the cheaper and smaller model will appeal to those looking for the same great features and specs, but in a more compact size. The standard Z6 is likely to be the most popular variant while the Premium will be comparable to high end Phablets.

Expect to see a thinner design and near bezeless display. It looks like the double sided glass design will be back once again, but we’re hearing Sony is looking at a new composite that is likely to make all models of the Z6 more durable and lighter. The scratch resistant front and back panels will also return making for a redefined, but similar looking concept.

Z6 Price

Sony Xperia Z6 Premium Specs

Consumers will be happy to know the price on the day of launch will remain similar with the launch price of the Z5. With the Z6 Compact likely to be the cheapest model with a price that will only set you back about $650. The standard Z6 will be next, but still priced to sell at $700 and the Z6 Premium coming in around $750.

If the above rumors hold-true, when comparing the launch price of the Z6 with other flagships such as the upcoming Galaxy S7 and LG G5, it’ll be significantly less. Samsung’s new flagship is expected to start around $750 and moving upwards to $850 for the S7 Edge. The LG G5 will offer a similar price pattern with their premium version launching later in the year for about $800-850 here in the US.

Preorders

Expect all of the top cell carriers to get in on Sony  preorders including the big four here in the US. Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T are all expected to announce their specific preorder availability with rumors suggesting US Cellular will do the same. In the UK, Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse, and most carriers will also feature preorder and pre-launch information shortly after the official announcement.

Preorders will be the best way to get the Z6 on launch day, especially considering consumer expectations already at an all-time high. Pre-launch information should immediately after the announcement with preorders starting soon after. Most carriers will allow you to preorder the Z6 with no money down, or you’ll be able to pay in full if you choose.

Release Date

Sony Xperia Z6 Release Date

The Xperia Z6 release date is expected to first be featured in Asian markets such as Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, and more before making its way to the US, UK, and European markets. It will be interesting to see if Sony is able to meet the launch demands of consumers as any delays could hurt the launch in many markets. With other high-end smartphones from LG, Samsung, HTC, and Apple due to be launched around the same time, maintaining consumer demands will be a must.

[AdSense-A]It’s sounding like Sony will be looking to speed up the launch to help compete on a large scale with the likes of the Galaxy S7 and LG G5 which are both expected to launch early Q2. Expect the Z6 to come shortly after, but I would be surprised to see a 2016 MWC announcement during the 1st week in April.

Wrapping up this Preview – Rumors, Specs, Features, Concept, Price, Preorder, and Release Date Info

Sony Xperia Z6 Rumors

Sony was once one of the top smartphone manufacturers in the world, and still today they are in many parts of the world. The popularity of the Xperia Z series has slipped in recent years, but with the recent launch of the Xperia Z5 it’s now looking good for Sony mobile. With rumors prior to the release looking like Sony was looking to downsize their mobile division, it’s looking like it’s be just the opposite as we move forward.

Wasting no time in creating the concept for the upcoming launch of not one, but three Z6 smartphones, it’s looking like consumers are getting exactly what they want. We’ll continue to bring in all the latest rumors, specs, features, concept, price, preorder, and release date info leading up to what is certain to be a huge 2016 launch worldwide.

Will the Xperia Z6 Premium Break Easily?

Buying an expensive new smartphone can be a bit of a worrying experience – you’re essentially throwing away $500-$1000 or investing around $50 a month on a gadget that can quite easily break after nothing more than a simple accident. With the Sony Z6 Premium being even more high end than the standard flagship, it’s normal to be concerned about the potential for breakages.

But will the Xperia Z6 Premium break easily? We’ve taken a look at the chance your smartphone has to break.

Will the Xperia Z6 Premium Break Easily?

Drops whilst sitting and drops in the house

We’d first like to start off nice and easy. Will the Xperia Z6 Premium break easily when dropped inside or onto the ground outside whilst we’re sitting down? Fortunately over the years smartphones have become a lot more durable. Whilst you may get a few scuffs and scratches from dropping your smartphone onto a hard surface from a sitting position, it’s very, very unlikely that you’ll receive any serious damage to your Sony Xperia Z6 from such a small height.

What about drops inside the house? A drop from standing height onto a carpeted area will see relatively no damage at all on your Sony Xperia Z6 Premium. Drops onto tiling, wood or kitchen flooring may end up with a few scuffs but that’s the extent of damage you’d expect to see from the average drop inside your home.

Drops outside

When dropping your smartphone outside, things become a lot scarier. For the most part though, drops from 5 to 6 feet will in most cases only result in some scratches and scuffs to your Sony Xperia Z6 Premium. There’s always the chance that the ground will catch your smartphone at an odd angle and this could end up with some damage on the display.

If you are concerned about drop damage then you should look into purchasing a case for your Z6 Premium.

Water Damage

What about water damage? Will the Xperia Z6 Premium break easily if it is submerged into water? The simple answer is no – the smartphone has IP68 certification – this means it can be submerged into water of up to 1.5 meters in depth for a total of 30 minutes before there is risk of damage. We wouldn’t suggest trying this yourself, but a splash into a pool or in the toilet isn’t going to brick your Xperia Z6 Premium.

Is the Sony Xperia Z6 Premium Worth it?

Is the Sony Xperia Z6 Premium worth it? This is one question that’s often asked about the latest Z6 smartphones and it can be answered by looking at exactly how you use your smartphone. In case you missed it, the Premium variant will be one of three versions of the Z6 which will be launched mid-2016 in a market near you.

We’ve listed a few examples of how the Xperia Z6 Premium is and isn’t worth it below.

Is the Sony Xperia Z6 Premium Worth it?

It’s All About the Big Display

Whilst you are paying more for a few additional hardware features, the biggest difference on the Xperia Z6 Premium is the size and resolution of the display. 4K itself is still very limited however, because there is not much content out there available in 4K resolution. As a result, the Z6 Premium’s main selling point is simply the size of the display, which sits at 5.5 inches if not bigger. The Premium will be significantly larger than the other two variants including the standard Z6 and Z6 Compact.

Is the Xperia Z6 Premium worth it if you’re a fan of phablets like the Galaxy Note or the LG G4? If you are a fan of the above devices, then yes, the Xperia Z6 is worth it – you’ll appreciate the larger display.

If a big screen isn’t that big of a deal for you or if it’s slightly off putting then no, the Xperia Z6 Premium is not worth it for you.

Dual-SIM?

If you use two different SIM cards, for example one for business and one for your personal life, then the dual-SIM variant of the Xperia Z6 Premium may be of interest to you. It’s harder to get hold of the dual-SIM variant, but only the Z6 Premium has a dual-SIM variant.

Both the Z6 and the Z6 Compact will not come in dual-SIM so if having a device that can support two SIM cards at once is important to you, then you should certainly consider picking up the Xperia Z6 Premium.

Everything Else is Unnecessary

Most of the other bonuses of the Xperia Z6 Premium that are not listed above are mostly not worth it. The extra RAM is not that necessary and the additional battery size is mostly negated by the larger display.

Sony Xperia Z6 Drop Test Results

If you’re considering purchasing the Sony Xperia Z6, there’s no doubt that you’d like to see a video showing off the Sony Xperia Z6 drop test results. Unfortunately we can’t show off any results yet because we have yet to get hold of the Sony Xperia Z6. We can use previous devices to make an educated guess on drop tests for the Z6 though.

Sony Xperia Z6 Drop Test Results

Rumored Xperia Z6 Drop Test Results

In previous drop tests taken on the Xperia Z1, Z2, Z3 and following devices, we’ve seen fairly similar results. After a big beating, the device usually takes some considerable damage, but it seems to take a lot to make the Xperia smartphones to break. This is definitely something to consider, especially if you’ll be one of the thousands looking to pick one up and use it for everyday practical use.

As you can expect, standard drops and fumbles will cause scratches and scuffs to the frame of your Xperia Z6. Fortunately it would take a tall drop onto a hard surface such as concrete to break the Xperia Z6 display. Even then there’s the chance that your device could come out relatively unharmed.

As long as the Xperia Z6 frame is sturdy enough, we’re looking at seeing a very decent level of protection for the Z6 out of the box. We can’t 100% confirm the Z6 will be a sturdy device until we’ve seen some real Sony Xperia Z6 drop test results, but we’re pretty confident that it will stand up well.

Xperia Z6 Durability

Perhaps part of the reason why Sony’s smartphones are always so durable is the fact that they are always well balanced – there is never any particular area of the smartphone that is more weighty than others. The Xperia Z6 also features a very flat, basic design that reduces the risk of a small concentrated area taking the blow from a drop to the ground.

There’s always the chance that your Sony Xperia Z6 will break from a drop to the ground, but the device is fairly sturdy. Let’s not forget that Sony’s devices are IP67 certified too – this means that water and dust are unlikely to cause any problems.
